Arts & Culture
The village of Gaios is the capital of Paxos and the central port of the island. As you enter Gaios by boat you will see two green islands. The island of Panagia and the island of St Nicholas. On the island of St Nicholas you will find a venetian fortress built using designs of Leonardo da Vinci. If you would like to visit the fortress you must take permission from the municipality.Other interesting things you could do in Gaios are stroll through the narrow roads called (kantounia) , visit the museum of Paxos and the municipal gallery.
Shows & Entertainment
See traditional Greek dancing at Mongonissi’s beach or catch a recital during the annual Paxos Music Festival, which takes place this year between August 29 and September 6.
Outdoor & Adventure
Picnic on Erimitis beach, created after a landslide in 2008. It’s a long hike down and ends with steep steps. Alternatively, you can get there by boat.
Buy a map and wander the many old goat tracks, discovering forgotten villages hidden by gnarled olive trees.
Hop on a boat for a trip to the best view of the towering limestone Tripitos Arch.
Visit Ben’s Bar on Monodendri Beach, a laid-back, café-restaurant with sunloungers and deckchairs that’s near a popular snorkelling spot.
Do not forget to buy olive oil – extracted by ancient stone presses – direct from producers in Paxos.
Antipaxos island is famous for its Caribbean colours and secluded sands. The simplest way to get to Antipaxos is from Gaios harbour on Paxos. Small sea taxis provide a shuttle service from Gaios to Antipaxos several times a day.
